SCHOOL
Education is a critical part of growth and independence. The children used to have their schools in similar structures like their homes that are dome shaped made with barks of trees and covered with leaves on top. In some villages, there was no structure at all and their school was under the shade of a tree in open air, enduring the heat and various weather challenges.
We began building a one room classroom for the villages that is about 5×6 meters. It would have desks and chairs for the students which were generally between 20-30 students. The joy of the children could be seen as they helped in building of their school.
Until now 3 class rooms have been built in 3 different villages. The cost for building the schools is about $3200.
School supplies are provided to the children such as paper, pencil, pens, eraser, etc. Children move forward together in the their studies as they only have 1 teacher in the village. They mainly learn how to read and write and many extra learning classes are missing for them at this time.
They generally study through 6th grade and the standard of learning is very low. But the school gives the structure to have a foundation for learning the basics until hopefully in the future more classes can be arranged with more teachers.
